I came across an interesting article that is a few years old that does a good job of explaining electrochromic technology or electronically tintable windows. While this technology may be competition for traditional window films in the very long term, this article will educate you as to why this will not be a viable alternative in the near future. Considering the current costs of this technology and the amount of glass currently installed without any tinting, it may be decades before this is viewed as a viable retrofit option. However, it is interesting and is beginning to be spoken about more frequently. For this reason, make sure that you understand the basics layed out in this article so that you can converse intelligently when the topic arises.
